Policy
AIDS/HIV
Navarro College shall not take into consideration the existence of AIDS/HIV or any communicable disease as a part of the initial admission decision for those applying to attend Navarro College.
Such students may continue to engage in regular activities, including class attendance and college functions, as their condition allows, as long as they are able to meet acceptable performance standards, and medical evidence indicates that their condition is not a threat to themselves or others.
-
The college shall not require a screening of students for HIV; however, Navarro College shall refer students requesting such testing to their personal health care provider or local health department.
-
Navarro College will provide no medical information to anyone outside the college without the prior specific written consent of the student unless required by state law. Knowledge shall be confined to those professional staff members with a direct need to know.
-
Navarro College must strictly observe any mandatory public health reporting for communicable diseases per Texas Health and Safety Code, Chapter 81.042, Communicable Diseases. A list of state required notifiable conditions is on the Texas Department of State Health Services website at https://www.dshs.texas.gov/notifiable-conditions.
Exception: Students enrolled in programs, such as Allied Health and Protective Services, may be subject to additional health requirements and screenings due to the nature of their training and professional standards.
